Google fights fake news in search with 'fact check' tags

c/net Google is adding a fact check tag to some search results. Google is bringing tools to fight fake news to its most important and iconic product: search. The tech giant said Friday that it's adding "fact check" labels to some of the results in its search engine. If you search for something and a story from a credible fact-checking source like PolitiFact or Snopes comes up, it will get that label.  For those stories, the search result will show a snippet that says what the claim is about, who made the claim and who fact-checked it. For example, if you type in a stat like, "27 million people enslaved," Google will bring up a PolitiFact story with a judgment that says the claim is "mostly true." In October, the search giant introduced the fact check label for Google News in a few countries. But now Google is expanding use of the tag to search, as well as Google News in every other country where it's available. The spread of misinformatio

Rid our Forests of Criminals, Abubakar Challenges Army

This Day Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has again challenged the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to intensify efforts and flush out insurgents, kidnappers, cattle rustlers, and all other criminal elements seeking refuge in Bauchi State forests, particularly those fleeing military actions in Sambisa, Falgore and Zamfara forests. The governor, who threw this challenge when he received the General officer Commanding 3rd Division, Major General Benjamin Ahanotu at the Government House, Bauchi Sunday lamented that the forests that surround Bauchi State are gradually being taken advantage of by criminals. Governor Abubakar explained that his administration was disturbed by activities of criminals in and around the communities surrounding the forests, the reason which he said necessitated the procurement and presentation of motor cycles to the armed forces in the state to help them penetrate and flush out the criminals seeking sanctuary. Ajimobi installs 21 new Ibadan kings in one day

Punch  The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, on Sunday presented staffs of office to 21 new kings in Ibadan, the state capital. At a ceremony held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the governor said he had nothing against the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, who was not at the ceremony, adding that the appointment of the new kings followed due process. The governor stated that thenceforth, the Olubadan would be addressed as His Imperial Majesty, while members of the Olubadan–in-Council, who were also elevated to kingship status, would be addressed as ‘‘your royal majesties.’’ The governor also explained that the promoted baales would be addressed as ‘‘your royal highnesses.’’ The elevated members of the Olubadan-in-Council, who were present to receive their instruments of office were the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, Senator Lekan Balogun; the Ashipa Olubadan of Ibadan land, Eddy Oyewole; the Balogun of Ibadan land, Owolabi Olakuleyin; the Osi Balogun of Ibadan land
