First Baby of the year: Ambode’s wife insists on exclusive breastfeeding

Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Bo­lanle Ambode has urged nursing moth­ers to observe all the baby-raising tips taught at ante-natal and im­portantly, to embrace exclusive breast-feeding.

She reiterated that this would not only make the baby healthy and strong, but also help reduce unneces­sary spending on health issues.
Mrs. Ambode said this at her maid­en 2016 First Baby of the year cer­emony where baby Ubani who was delivered at General Hospital, Epe at 12.01 yesterday emerged as the First Baby of the year in Lagos.
Announcing Mrs. Amarachi Uba­ni’s baby as the First Baby of the year in the state, the Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Jide Idris said the winning baby; a girl who weighed 3.25kg was delivered at 12.01a.m through caesarian session.

The N500bn social welfare schemes

The Federal Government has earmarked N500 billion in the 2016 budget for social welfare intervention programs. The proposed intervention is part of Medium Term Expenditure Framework for 2016, 2017 and 2018 and Fiscal Strategy Paper forwarded to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari last week. The Assembly has already approved the two papers. The intervention programs will cover the areas of school feeding, conditional cash transfer to vulnerable persons and a post-NYSC grant. The President said in the paper that “N500 billion has been provided in the 2016 budget as social investment for those programs. The interventions will start as a pilot scheme and work towards securing the support of donor agencies and our development partners in order to minimise potential risks.” The President and the ruling APC deserve commendation for trying to make real one of their major campaign promises.
