Black Friday: Online stores make record sales
It was shopping fever
yesterday as shoppers clung to their computers and mobile devices or thronged
shops, for an annual opportunity for massive discounts. Dubbed Black Friday,
and borrowed from the United
States , the tradition is for sellers to
slash the prices of their wares, sometimes drastically.
Although the origin of Black Friday is contentious, it has become popular as a shopping day for various reasons. Being the first day after the last major holiday, before Christmas, which is Thanksgiving, it marks the unofficial beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
A happy client like Amira Maiyaki said: “I slept only about one hour on Thursday because I set my alarm to wake up at 11.30. But I found that by 9.20 or there about I was already and the anxiety wouldn’t let me go to sleep.”
