FG to recruit 500,000 teachers, put annual salaries at N240bn

Federal Government yesterday set up a committee to work out the modalities for its proposed recruitment of 500,000 graduates and National Certificate of Education, NCE teachers for the basic education sub-sector in Nigeria.
In his remarks at the formal inauguration of the Actualisation of Recruitment, Training and Deployment of Graduates and NCE Graduate Teachers for the Basic Education Sub-sector Committee, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Anwuka, said the committee will undertake the responsibility of repositioning the education sector by diligently working out the processes for realising the federal government’s dream of bringing in more hands in teaching service.
He said the recruitment exercise was in line with the promise of the Buhari administration to engage more teachers for the basic education sub-sector, which was also captured in the 2016 budget.

St. Finbaar’s College, Akoka wins the annual Helmbridge Science Challenge for secondary schools in Lagos State.

St. Finbarr’s College Akoka, Lagos at the weekend won the annual Helmbridge Science Challenge for secondary schools in Lagos State. The school in a six-week-long competition defeated May Day College and Topgrade Secondary School, Surulere in the preliminaries to qualify for the final. The Akoka boys who walked-over Penny International College Coker, the defending champions, for late coming, went into sporadic jubilation on their victory. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that 16 schools participated in the competition, including Yaba College of Technology Secondary School, St. Finbaar’s College, Penny Internatinal College, Shining Lord’s Secondary and Technical School. Others are St. Michael’s Anglican College, Jubilee Model Grammar school, Fountain Heights Secondary School, St. Gregory’s College and St. Jude’s Private Secondary School.
