Aviation dues: FG threatens defaulting airlines
Federal
Government has threatened to embarrass airline operators in Nigeria who fail to
promptly pay their dues to aviation agencies.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Hajiya Binta Bello, made the
threat at a consultative meeting with members of the Airline Operators of
Nigeria, AON, in Lagos.
She said: “… Airline operators in Nigeria are to pay their dues to the aviation agencies promptly to avoid the embarrassment of their airlines being grounded by the regulatory agencies in the Aviation sector and also enable the Agencies to carry out their statutory functions effectively and efficiently,” the statement read.
Bello said part of the moves is fallout of the meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari which forced her to take drastic measures to reposition the sector.
The Permanent Secretary also told the airline owners that the Ministry’s recent meeting with President Buhari left her with no doubt as to the administration’s commitment to repositioning the aviation sector to becoming a major player in the nation’s economic affairs
