Customs seize N95.7m bulletproof car

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone C, Owerri, has intercepted a 2015 model bullet proof Toyota Camry without the end user certificate. The vehicle is valued at N95.7 million. Also, a total of 100 vehicles and other contrabands valued at N346, 347,568, with fake documents were impounded along Benin express-way, Agbor-Asaba axis and Aba/Owerri highway in the last four days. The anti-smuggling’s Public Relations Officer, Ifeoma Onuigbo, told New Telegraph that the impounded vehicles were 2014 and 2015 models. She said that 15 of the vehicles were the latest models of Toyota and Mercedes Benz.
The spokesperson said that eight suspects had been held over the smuggled vehicles, which included six Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser VXR, Toyota Fortuner, Lexus LX 570 and M/Benz CLS 350. Also confiscated by the Customs officers, Onuigbo said, are 5,364 cartons of smuggled chicken, turkey and gizzard concealed in Mercedes Benz trucks, with used Jacuzzi bathing tubes, rolls of black polythene nylon bags and crates of woods lining the walls of the truck. Also, she said that poultry products with duty paid value of N89,338,400, were impounded along the Benin, Agbor and Bayelsa/ Port-Harcourt axis between August 13 and 14, 2015, respectively. Already, she said that four smugglers had been arrested in connection with the poultry products.
