Buhari called lawmakers to peace meeting.



The meeting called by President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the lingering leadership crisis in the House of Representatives ended in a deadlock, yesterday.

The feuding members left the meeting held at the State House in Abuja singing discordant tunes to State House correspondents.
Buhari had called the lawmakers to the peace meeting to avoid another showdown in the Green Chamber ahead of its resumption of plenary today.

Some of the lawmakers from Femi Gbajabiamila’s camp told journalists that the President directed them to respect the All Progressives Congress, APC’s position while those loyal to the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, said the President didn’t give such order.
The Dogara loyalists said the President merely told them to go and sit with the party leadership to find amicable solutions to the problem.
The two main personalities at the centre of the crisis, Dogara and Gbajabimaila, told reporters that they were optimistic that the problem would be resolved soon.
Gbajabiamila said that the meeting was a family affair, adding that, “We had a family meeting. We spoke heart to heart. The President was very forthright. It was basically on the party supremacy. “I believe that by the end of the day, before the end of this night, you guys will know the outcome. We are still talking. But I think this is the first time everybody is coming together in a cordial atmosphere as one family. I think we are almost at the point where all of these will be behind us.”
Dogara said he had always stood by the party.

“I have always been by the party. There has never been a time that I didn’t stand firmly by the party. So, like my chairman has explained, sooner or later, we will have good news for Nigerians,” he said.
The APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said that hopes were alive that the party would pull through.

“Everything is up. You can see I am smiling. You will be very surprised. A lot was achieved in 20 minutes. You can see the Speaker of the House standing firmly by me. In another three or four hour, we will have good news for the country. It is never too late to strengthen the past,” he said.

St. Finbaar’s College, Akoka wins the annual Helmbridge Science Challenge for secondary schools in Lagos State.

St. Finbarr’s College Akoka, Lagos at the weekend won the annual Helmbridge Science Challenge for secondary schools in Lagos State. The school in a six-week-long competition defeated May Day College and Topgrade Secondary School, Surulere in the preliminaries to qualify for the final. The Akoka boys who walked-over Penny International College Coker, the defending champions, for late coming, went into sporadic jubilation on their victory.
