APC Wants Nigerian Newspapers To Report Lies – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over what it called an inglorious attempt by the ruling All Progressives (APC) to stop the media from telling Nigerians the truth about the state of the nation especially on matters of security.
Minister of Information, Alh. Lai Mohammed had recently urged the Nigerian media to refrain from glorifying attacks by Islamist terrorist organisation, Boko Haram, especially on the front pages of newspapers. This according to him amounts to giving oxygen to the sect to carry out more attacks.
But speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh said the statement by the Minister is a calculated attempt by the ruling party to dissuade the media houses from telling Nigerians the truth, especially on the state of insecurity in the country.
While condemning the Minister’s statement on glorification of Boko Haram attacks, Metuh said he wondered why the APC didn’t give the media such advice when it was the major opposition political party in the country.
“We condemn the attempt by the APC-led government to regulate the media. They do not believe in the Freedom of Information Act. They do not believe that the media should inform people on true happenings of events in Nigeria”.
