Police tighten border security at New Year
Apparently concerned that
terrorists might take advantage of the New Year celebrations to enter Nigeria
illegally to perpetrate terror attacks, the Inspector General of Police, IGP
Solomon Arase has directed the assistant inspector general, AIG Border Patrol
to ensure that the nation’s borders are effectively manned to prevent any
cross-border crime.
The IGP also directed all Zonal AIGs and State Command Commissioners of Police,
CPs to ensure effective and efficient deployment of all operational manpower
and tools at the disposal of their respective Commands.
In a statement issued yesterday by the Force PRO, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, IGP Arase’s directives are aimed at ensuring a secure, peaceful and hitch-free nation-wide New Year celebration.
ACP Kolawole said, against the backdrop of security challenges in the country and the general preparation for the New Year celebrations, the Nigeria Police High Command has urged worshippers both at Jummat and Church services to take adequate measures to reduce the number of vehicles around these hallowed worship centres.
