Felicia Bassey Emerges A’Ibom Deputy Speaker
Member representing Okobo State
Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mrs Felicia Bassey has
emerged Deputy Speaker.
She was sworn into office by the Speaker, Rt.
Hon. Onofiok Luke after a unanimous nomination and election for the
number two position by a motion moved by member representing Abak state
constituency, Mr Friday and seconded by Hon. Nse Essien of ONNA state
constituency.
The new Deputy Speaker is the immediate-past
chairperson for Okobo local government area of Akwa Ibom state. She holds a
bachelor’s degree in law.
She is the second female House member to be
elected deputy speaker of the state Assembly. Mrs Grace Edim Inyang who
represented Itu state constituency in the first Assembly was first ever female
Deputy Speaker of the House.
While administering the oath of office on the
new deputy speaker, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Luke charged her to live up to her
colleagues’ confidence in her ability to carry out her duties in the
House effectively.on
Other members of the house who poured
encomium on the new deputy speaker described her new office as well
deserved, and expressed confidence in her ability to discharge the functions of
the office optimally.
Meanwhile, the 2016 Appropriation bill of the
state has passed a second reading on the floor of the Akwa Ibom State House of
Assembly. It has subsequently been committed to the House Committee on
Appropriation and Finance for necessary actions.
