APC/Saraki: We can make Nigeria great again

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said the challenges facing the nation are temporary and will soon go way, urging Nigerians not to lose hope.
He made the remark in his New Year message to the nation which he personally signed.
The President also said he was fully aware of the sufferings Nigerians are presently going through.
He assured that he will not fail to keep the promises he has made to Nigerians.
The President said: “I am aware that Nigerians have experienced a number of significant hardships over the past months. Living in the State House has not alienated me from your daily sufferings. I am aware of the lengthy queues at fuel stations and of the difficulties businesses have faced in acquiring foreign exchange. These challenges are only temporary, we are working to make things better.
“When I presented myself to you as a presidential candidate and asked you to vote for me, I wanted to be a leader who keeps his promises. I wanted to be a leader who restores the people’s hope in those elected to serve them. I wanted to be a leader who initiates positive and enduring CHANGE.
“I am still totally committed to being that kind of leader. Unforeseen circumstances and other distractions notwithstanding, I shall still do my utmost best to keep every promise I made to Nigerians during my election campaign.”
Buhari said since the inauguration on May 29, his administration has focused on laying the right foundation for the change that Nigerians voted for during the presidential election.
He added: “Nigerians will in due course begin to enjoy the fruits of all ongoing work. The effective and efficient implementation of our 2016 budget proposals will address many of the socio-economic issues that are of current concern to our people.
“One area in which Nigerians, especially those in the northeast, have already begun to experience major change is in the war on terror.”
He commended the Armed Forces for significantly curtailing the insurgency, which has ravaged the northeast over the last few years.
…We’ll make Nigeria great again, tells Nigerians at New Year
By Olugbenga Salami
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki yesterday called on Nigerians to join hands with the present administration to make the country great again by supporting its policies and programmes aimed at restoring full security across the country.
Saraki in a New Year message to Nigerians, signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu in Abuja, congratulated the people as they mark the New Year festivities and for their resilience and patience, especially in the face of daunting economic challenges.
He said that the need for effective collaboration between the people and the federal government is imperative, to overcome the nation’s most pressing socio-economic challenges and to make the nation prosperous once again.
He added that the present government is working to ensure the world stops talking of the potentials of Nigeria and move on to counting the achievements and progress recorded by our country as the true giant of Africa and major player in world politics.
The Senate President noted that the Federal Government, through the nation’s Armed Forces and the support of all Nigerians, have recorded tremendous success in the fight against insurgency while pointing out that intense collaboration between the citizenry and government is needed now more than ever before to prevent incessant attacks from Boko Haram and eradicate all forms of criminality in the land.
He commiserated with all victims of suicide attacks during the Christmas celebration and said he was greatly encouraged by the determination displayed by the security agencies so far in their efforts to effectively close that sad chapter of the nation’s history.
Saraki said: “I am delighted that we are celebrating the New Year not only in peace but as a united country to the shame of dooms day prophets that predicted that this country would not survive the year 2015. Notwithstanding the negative predictions, we are today marking the New Year as one indivisible country and more than ever before determined as a people to live together in peace, love and unity.
“This is why it is crucial for the government and the people to continue to work together to ensure total restoration of security in every nook and cranny of the country and to set the nation’s economy on the path of progress once more. Nigeria is the only country we have. Let’s unite to defend and make her the greatest country in the continent,” Saraki stated.
He urged all citizens who are aggrieved over any issue to always explore the various available constitutional means of seeking redress and resolution rather than resorting to means that will create tension and bring benefit to nobody.
The Senate President pledged that the National Assembly would continue to fashion out appropriate legislative instruments that would bring succour to Nigerians, boost economic growth and strengthen the fight against corruption and insurgency in the land.
…APC promises better life for Nigerians
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, yesterday assured Nigerians that 2016 would be a better year for Nigerians.
A statement issued in Abuja by the party’s Assistant ‎Director (Publicity), Mr Edegbe Odemwingie said, although 2015 was difficult, 2016 would see the fulfillment of all campaign promises by the APC.
The statement said: ‘’I want to, on behalf of our great party, the APC, wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year.
‘’While 2015 was difficult for many Nigerians, we must also look back, with relief and a collective sense of jubilation, to the momentous opportunity it offered to the electorate to make the long-desired change.
‘’And we must sustain the hope that brighter days are ahead of us. Although our challenges are legion, we have the courage and determination to rise up and meet them.
‘’I want to give a firm assurance that all the promises made by the party in respect of the 2015 election to Nigerians will be kept.
‘’The New Year holds great dividends for Nigerians when the policies of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration are enforced in the 2016 financial year.’’
The Chairman said the N6.08 trillion ‘Budget of Change’ presented by the President would ensure a lot of promises to the people are met, including paying stipends to the unemployed.
