A Canadian University don has donated a mammogram to an Osun State-based cancer foundation as a part of efforts to intensify cancer awareness programmes across the globe.

The donor, Dr Doris Kyeremateng of the University of Mannitoba, Canada, donated the equipment to MicCom Cancer Foundation, Ada, in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, in support of the foundation’s renewed efforts to ensure prevention and treatment of the deadly disease.

The foundation’s Programme Manager, Dr. Tolulope Kuye, who disclosed this to journalists  in Ada, Osun State, while commending the cancer expert’s gesture, enthused that the equipment was a big plus to the foundation’s avalanche of sophisticated world-class facilities that account for the series of successes being recorded in its medical operations.

She added that with the new mammogram, the foundation had been repositioned to re-engineer its sensitisation programmes targeted at early detection, prevention and treatment of cancer in both rural and urban areas with a view to checkmating cancer menace and its attendant death toll in the country.

Kuye added that the mammogram had also necessitated the expansion of the foundation’s building and personnel which include consultant radiologist, a chief radiographer among others.

Dr. Kuye who lamented the rising death toll of cancer-related ailments, particularly cancer of the breast, cervix, prostrate among others stressed that MicCom Cancer Foundation would not rest in its oars in its mission to promote cancer awareness and prevention through education and to reduce its burden by early detention through community-wide screening and facilitated treatment. She also disclosed that the foundation had assisted Osun State by helping young female adults and women to detect cancer early for prompt treatment.
