EFCC operative arrested for extorting N45m from suspects
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one of its operatives over alleged extortion of suspects who are under investigation.
A statement on Friday night
by EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said the operative, Abdulrahman Mohammed Biu,
a deputy detective superintendent, was arrested for offences bordering on
extortion and influence peddling.
Uwujaren said: "The officer was arrested on Monday January 25, 2016 following intelligence report alleging that he extorted a whopping sum of $150,000 (N45 million) from some military officers on the pretext that he would help give them a soft landing in the ongoing investigation into the arms deal scandal.”
