SATURDAY CRIME WATCH: Police Raid Cultists’ Den in Ogun, Arrest 10

Operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) of the Ogun State Police Command, in their efforts to rid the Gateway State of the unwholesome activities of armed robbers and other criminal elements have busted some cultists’ hideouts located within Papalanto and Ewekoro communities of Ewekoro Local Government Areas of Ogun State. The squad arrested ten suspected members of Eiye Confraternity, who have been terrorizing residents of the areas and other parts of the state.

The Ogun SARS led by, CSP Gbenga Megbope embarked on the raids of  some notorious black spots in the state between December 25 and 28, 2015, rounded up the suspected cultists - Opadola Olatunde, Sanni Afeez and eight others.
Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer said the SARS operatives recovered three daggers, two locally made double barreled guns, a dozen of blue regalia uniform of Eiye Confraternity and some assorted charms.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the arrested suspects confessed to belong to the Eiye Confraternity and added that they had been making useful statements that would assist the police in their investigations.
The police spokesman disclosed that Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abdulmajid Ali had given a matching order to all police formations in the command, particularly SARS to embark on constant raid of black spots in the state aimed at stemming criminal activities.
He added that the police boss had directed police detectives to go after other members of the gang and any other cultists or hoodlums, who have been terrorizing residents of the state and apprehend them, vowing there would not be room or breathing space for cultists and other criminal elements whose acts are capable of truncating the already existing security arrangement in the state.
He said further that the police would widen the scope of its investigation in the case in order to establish if the gang was involved in previous robbery operations or criminal acts in the areas where they were picked up or in any other parts of the state, so that the command could establish enough charges against the gang members.
